Route 66 Day Five

By Mark

Springfield – St. Louis – Sikeston

The day did not start very well, I opened the curtains this morning to reveal very heavy rain, after flicking on the weather channel it said that there was a chance of flooding in St. Louis, great!!

After a short period of time the rain began to die down and after breakfast we checked out and walked over to Abraham Lincoln’s house. I was very surprised to find out that this was free to visit and even for a guided tour by a park official.

After walking around his home and those of his neighbours we drove over to his tomb.

Also today we visited:

Cozy dogs for lunch

The Carlin Belle riverboat at Carlinville Inn

Henry’s Rabbit Ranch in Staunton

Luna Café

Chain of Rocks bridge

And finally the Gateway Arch in St Louis where we went right up to the top.

We had some problems following Route 66 around St. Louis.

After this we then drove as far south as possible so we could go to Memphis tomorrow.

We made it to the Best Western, Coach House Inn, Sikeston.
